About

I'm an anthropologist. I have done most of my fieldwork in Indonesia, on the clothing and textiles of the Batak people of North Sumatra. That decades-long experience has taught me to be very, very concerned about the effects of the global, industrial Fashion system on indigenous systems of clothing (too often regarded as 'mere' craft). The world is in deep crisis and I chose to work with Fashion Act Now so that I could be more effective in trying to bring about important change to the damaging and dangerous global Fashion system. The damage is not just material and environmental, but also psychological and cultural. Fashion is predatory and knows no boundaries. I urge you to take the time to listen to the story of FAN (from the mouths of the coordinators including myself) in our podcast, recorded in November 2021: https://www.fashionactnow.org/post/we-ve-recorded-a-podcast-on-clare-press-wardrobe-crisis

Thank you for joining us.
